Description
Title
On the Historical and Philosophical Currents of Thoughts along 20th Century
Abstract for Roundtable
The most popular philosophy of science is inductivism, and it is displayed in most histories of science. Next in popularity is conventionalism, and its chief exponent was a top-notch historian of science Pierre Duhem. Histories of science with conventionalist characteristics are also quite important; more so is the influence of conventionalism on all sorts of histories of science. Kuhn’s influence comes next, and his philosophy is very vague. Koyre and Cohen and their school come next, and the philosophy closest to their histories is Popperian critical rationalism. Next come historians who advocates metaphysics, including Burtt, Koyre and Jammer.
